How water gets in here
Storm history and an older downtown
El Reno is the Canadian County seat, about 25 miles west of Oklahoma City, with 16,989 residents at the 2020 census. Few towns have seen more severe weather: an EF5 struck northwestern El Reno on May 24, 2011, the May 31, 2013 tornado near town reached 2.6 miles wide, the widest on record, and an EF3 hit southern El Reno on May 25, 2019.
Most storm calls are smaller than those, though: hail and wind damage that leaks in the next heavy rain, and wind-driven rain at doors and windows.
El Reno's older downtown and its older homes add another kind of job, where plaster, masonry and old wood floors take longer to dry than drywall and carpet.
